Fix "DNS probe finished no internet" error in Windows 10

One of the very common errors in Google Chrome is DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NO_INTERNET and the message that there is no internet connection. As a result, it turns out that the Internet on the computer works, but the sites don't open in any browser. Unless the Internet can work in some programs. But this only confirms once again that there are problems with the DNS.

Based on my own experience, I can say that fixing this problem is not difficult. There are several tried and tested solutions that should work. But first, go through these points carefully:

  • If you see this error when you visit one specific site (and other resources open), then most likely the problem is on the server side where this site is hosted. Try opening it on another device or through a different connection.
  • Try restarting your computer and router. If you connect to the internet via a router.
  • If possible, you can try to connect to the Internet in a different way. For example, over another Wi-Fi network. This way we can exclude or confirm the occurrence of the "DNS probe finished no Internet" error due to the fault of the provider or router.
  • Make sure your internet connection is error free. Pay attention to the tray icon. There should be no yellow exclamation mark. If there is one, this is a completely different problem.

If you checked all of the above points, and the error still remains, then let's move on to more serious solutions. And we'll start with the most effective ones.

Change DNS server addresses and reset the DNS cache

The first thing to try with this error is to establish exactly working DNS servers, for example from Google.

  1. To quickly open the "Network Connections" window, press the Win + R key combination, enter the ncpa.cpl command and click OK.

  2. A list of connections will open, right-click on your active Internet connection and select Properties.

  3. Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and click the Properties button.

  4. Check the box "Use the following DNS server addresses" and specify the addresses 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 and then apply the settings.

  5. Run Command Prompt as Administrator and enter the following command:
    ipconfig /flushdns

  6. Also open Google Chrome / Chromium and paste in the address bar:

Reset Winsock and TCP/IP

In case the problem persists after the previous method, run Command Prompt as administrator (as described earlier), and then enter the following commands in order, pressing Enter after each:

ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
netsh winsock reset
netsh int ip reset

After running these commands, close Command Prompt and restart your computer or laptop.

Check DNS client service

The DNS Client service is responsible for the operation of DNS in Windows. You need to check if it works.

  1. Press the Win+R key combination, type services.msc and press Enter.
  2. In the list of services, find the DNS Client service. Check if it is running.

Reset network settings

In the worst case, when none of the options helped, it is worth using the last resort, it is a complete reset of the user connection settings.

  1. Press the key combination Win + I to open the "Settings", in which select "Network & Internet".
