If you're having video playback or black screen issues in Microsoft Edge, it makes sense to try disabling hardware video and graphics acceleration in your browser.
Disable hardware acceleration in Microsoft Edge
To turn off hardware acceleration in the latest version of Microsoft Edge, follow these simple steps:
- Open the browser menu (three dots in the upper right corner) and go to "Settings".
- Go to the "System" section, and disable the item "Use hardware acceleration when available". Click the "Restart" button.
If the above does not help, and the problem occurs when playing online video, try another option to disable:
- In the browser address bar, enter edge://flags
- In the search box, paste or type: Hardware-accelerated video decode. Switch the option to Disabled and click the Restart button to restart the browser.
